We are seeking an experienced professional in Catastrophe Risk Modelling to join our Catastrophe Modelling team. This role will be based in Bogota. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
As a Catastrophe Risk Modelling VP you will be an integral member of Guy Carpenter’s Latin America & Caribbean (LAC) catastrophe modelling team, positioned and working primarily with the team in Bogota, Miami and London servicing clients across Latin America and the Caribbean region.
You will work closely with brokers and other GC Analytics members to gather and assess clients’ catastrophe exposure data to best understand and proactively address the potential impact of natural and man-made catastrophes.
In addition, you will be responsible for managing catastrophe modelling projects from beginning to end and will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of clients and contribute to a wide range of innovative catastrophe modelling initiatives.
We will count on you to:
- Organize client data, check data for reasonability, load data into catastrophe models, run the models and share output with senior colleagues to help determine client's degree of risk.
- Perform calculations with client data to assess a range of risk exposures and predict outcomes for clients in support of reinsurance transaction process.
- Develop knowledge in certain region-based or peril-based areas of catastrophe risk management services through research or experience to advance professionally and gain recognition as an industry expert.
- Reviews complex analyses completed by project team members involving catastrophe risk models and evaluates the resulting data sets to calculate the client’s risk exposure.
- Establish client relationships, resolve questions and challenges that may arise.
- Prepare clear, concise summaries, presentations, and reports for client projects, effectively communicating potential risks, loss estimates, and strategic recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
- Present complex technical results confidently and clearly to clients and internal teams, translating technical data into understandable insights for diverse audiences.
What you need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a quantitative or natural sciences field such as applied mathematics, statistics, engineering, operations research, finance, economics, data science, computer science, meteorology
- 8 - 10+ years of relevant experience preferably in insurance or reinsurance companies or brokers.
- Extensive technical expertise working with Verisk (AIR) and RMS catastrophe models, with proven hands-on experience.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new software and analytical concepts quickly.
- Strong academic record.
- Fluent English and Spanish.
- Proactive mind-set: desire and ability to lead internal initiatives and research projects to completion.
- Robust data management skills: ability to manipulate, interpret, and extrapolate complex data.
- Superior communication and presentation skills: an ability to translate complex technical analysis and concepts into easily understandable terms for brokers and clients.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and attention to detail with financial aptitude.
- A collaborative, team-oriented individual.
- Strong interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining extraordinary client, reinsurer, and internal relationships
- Solid computer skills using Microsoft SQL, Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and basic coding in any language.
What makes you stand out?
- Previous experience in a technical related role at a reinsurance broker, market, or catastrophe model software vendor.
- Experience using Alteryx, Power BI, and/or programming languages (e.g. Python, R)
- Scientific background in applied mathematics, statistics, meteorology and/or seismology.
- Deep understanding of insurance / reinsurance industry and product lines.
- Technical expertise working with other catastrophe models (e.g. ERN, CoreLogic, KatRisk, etc.)
