PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Accounting Analyst (AAN) plays an essential role in supporting the smooth and efficient operation of Smarter Good's accounting services for a diverse portfolio of clients. They focus on accurately executing essential accounting tasks, utilizing technology to optimize efficiency and collaborating effectively with team members to ensure seamless service delivery. The AAN's contributions are vital in maintaining high-quality accounting services and contributing to client satisfaction.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting and Bookkeeping
- Execute accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment processing, expense coding, AR aging review, as collections under the guidance of the Senior Accounting Analyst (SAAN) or Associate Accounting Manager (AAM)
- Payroll administration and accounting
- Complete month-end journals, closing adjustments, and bank reconciliations
- Review general ledger, ensuring proper controls are in place and accounting standards are applied
- Prepare, complete, and submit accurate and timely financial reports
- Manage fund/grant accounting, including tracking and reporting
- Ensure all accounting deliverables are reviewed and approved by SAAN or AAM
- Assist in managing records, documentation, and reports efficiently for the Accounting team and its clients
- Identify potential financial process efficiencies and automation opportunities that could be positioned as value-added services for clients, contributing to service differentiation
Client Service
- Communicate with clients through email and participate in client calls with supervision from SAAN or AAM
- Contribute to process improvement by identifying areas needing improvement and recommending next steps
- Collaborate with the team and ensure transparent communication through regular feedback sessions
- Identify or escalate significant risks and be able to problem-solve independently or provide recommended possible solutions
- Identify opportunities for upselling additional accounting support or other Smarter Good services that could contribute to the client partner’s evolving goals
- Assume client management responsibilities that may include overseeing a portfolio of 3-4 clients, depending on the organization's size
- Manage projects and other ad-hoc requests from clients
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or any related course; CPA is a plus
- interested in and committed to being part of positive change in the world; brings an eagerness to learn and develop new skills
- At least two (2) to three (3) years experience in the same field; client services experience is highly desirable
- Interest and exposure in accounting systems and other related applications (Quickbooks, Xero, etc.)
- Ability to prioritize well and easily shift and refocus as urgent tasks emerge
- Excellent communication (both oral and written in English) skills, including the ability to be direct and clear; if not yet excellent, possesses a drive to improve
- Strong analytical skills
- Creative problem-solving, strong collaboration, and willingness to work across teams to improve client results
