Medical Patient Coordinator
Mahnke's Orthotics & Prosthetics, a leading provider of orthotic and prosthetic care located in Florida, USA, is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Intake Coordinator to join our team in el Poblado Medellin office. We are looking for a dedicated professional with strong medical insurance background experience.
Candidates must demonstrate clear leadership ability with a proven track record in referral intake, insurance verification, and document collection for medical necessary. Must have good phone skills and be able to work in a fast paced environment. Position is Full Time, Mon-Thursday 7:30am - 4pm and Friday 7:30am-3pm.
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the incoming prescription orders and verifying patient insurance coverage and providing information to patients and other departments within the company. The expectation of this position is to provide a first-class service experience, with every patient/or physician interaction.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

- Establishes and maintains patient medical records according to regulations.
- Responsible for obtaining all necessary signatures from physicians, staff and others as necessary for authorizations, certifications, doctor’s orders and release of information from patient
- Performs secretarial duties related to screening calls and facilitating communication for managers and other staff between patients, physicians, and insurance companies
- Verifies patient insurance coverage, to ensure DME (Orthotics & Prosthetics) services are covered by insurance provider
- Provides pertinent information to patients regarding their benefit coverage
- Provides same day authorization as per company policy
- Assists patients by discussing different financing options to fit their budgets and makes recommendations
- Obtains authorization for the items provided to patient
- Confirms that authorizations are received and entered to system
- Responsible for keeping all patient details and information orderly, confidential, current and HIPAA compliant at all times
- General clerical duties such as scheduling, filing, photo copying, data entry, scanning as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- English a must
- Strong commitment to patient care, customer service, friendly, helpful and caring nature is required
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills
- Ability to interface with all levels of employees (peers to senior management) in a polite and professional manner. Effectively present information and respond to questions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Experience with 1 year in insurance verification & benefit authorization
- Knowledge of PPO, HMO, government health plans and regulations
- A strong understanding of the authorization process and DME (Orthotics & Prosthetics) experience is preferred
